This month Stripe will be featuring the beautiful work of artist Elizabeth Vines. We love Elizabeth's abstract style and her expressive use of color. When she's not at her day job as a massage therapist, Elizabeth is creating gorgeous paintings inspired by the Santa Cruz landscapes. We got a chance to ask Elizabeth some questions about her work to get to know her a little better.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
I love oil.  The colors are just so rich and they blend like nothing else.  It feels like every layer of paint adds something, and doesn't just conceal what is beneath it.

Where do you go to be inspired?
Somewhere new to me and usually outside.  Sometimes I drive up the one and wander around on a beach. Or maybe a hike in the redwoods.

What was your first art teacher like?
Strict!  She was intense, but great.  I was in the 6th grade and she let us play with oil paint, but didn't take it lightly!  She was encouraging, but only when you earned it.

What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Rock climbing!  I started learning how to climb a few years ago and it's really become a part of my life.

Opening Reception This Friday, May 1st from 5-9pm at Stripe
